tarsands protest :
Monday, August 23, 2010
On the day of action against RBS, a group of climate campers went into Edinburgh, to bring the message to the public that RBS is the 7th largest funder in the world of the Canadian Tar Sands, dubbed the world's most destructive project. With them were two indigenous activists from Canada, Riannon Ball and Jasmine Thomas, whose First Nations are fighting a proposed tar sands oil pipeline through their territories.

First they went to a branch of RBS where four activists, covered in molasses, staged a sit-in inside and then outside the bank, shutting it down for an hour. The group then recreated a toxic tailings pond, complete with dead ducks, on the Royal Mile, drawing a large crowd of Edinburgh fringe-goers to listen to Jasmine's explanation of why RBS's investments are so devastating.
